STRENGTH IN UNITY

The Sister Schools initiative that roots from the love we have for children and the passion to build a bridge between those less fortunate and those that are better off. This initiative is to partner up and establish relationships between the disadvantaged and the formerly known “model c” schools. The idea is to have the two schools paired to have an ongoing relationship, the privileged school informally adopting a nature of giving back to the disadvantaged school. This “sister” relationship consisting of the following options: A winter drive (donation of warm clothes), fund raising for renovations (school raffles), donation of old reading books, sports kits, a Christmas drive (donation of toys and canned/non-perishable foods). The relationship between the two schools is an on-going relationship which is not bound by any contract. The donations from the one school can be done on an annual basis or at the frequency that the privileged school desires. The continuity of the relationship is at the discretion of the privileged school between the school.

The project started off as an assignment that the students had to do for their Project Management Module. They had a mandate to successfully execute a project that will have an impact on the community or in people's lives. The students saw fit to it that the sister schools project is the best project among other projects. The Ubunye Sister Schools project is a project that encourages nation building and teaching young minds how to help people that are less fortunate than them. The team decided to use Fairmont High School in Durbanville and Lawrencia Primary School. The schools are in the Western Cape Province in South Africa and are both approximately 27km and 37km outside of Cape Town Respectively
